About the role

Legal and Governance forms part of the Group functions within AMP. The L&G team provides a comprehensive range of support services to all AMP business lines, through the AMP Legal teams, Group Secretariat and Trustee Services, and the management of outside legal counsel.

LDR is responsible for management of all major disputes and litigation across the AMP Group, including advice on complex claims and provides advice, support and training to various AMP business units.

The position's main purpose is to provide key legal services relating to disputes and litigation involving AMP's products and services. Provide the AMP business units (Advice & Banking, Operations and Insurance and Superannuation) with legal advice, support and representation including in relation to:

  • AMP's regulatory response, compliance and governance functions.
  • Litigation and dispute resolution arising from financial advice, insurance and remediation.



  • Work effectively with business areas/stakeholders as required (e.g. business leaders, leadership teams, outsource providers and project teams) in the delivery of dispute and litigation legal advice.
  • Identify and understand AMP's business strategies and priorities and provide appropriate and relevant legal advice.
  • Maintain awareness of key legal changes in the financial services industry through external networks and participation in relevant industry forums and committees.
  • Effectively communicate with stakeholders in the business around key financial services legal developments and potential risks.
  • Share important advice and developments with the broader legal team within AMP and make changes where required.
  • Create strong working relationships with other members of the Legal & Governance team and other key stakeholders.

Skills & experience

  •   At least 5 years' of Well-developed, relevant experience in dispute and litigation skills developed in-house or in private practice
  • Demonstrated ability to provide commercially focused legal advice.
  • Broad knowledge of Banking, Financial Services, Life Insurance and Superannuation industries, alongside risk management
  • Degree in Law and must hold or be eligible to hold a relevant legal practising certificate in New South Wales
  • Experience in dealing with financial services regulators.
